Shipping company costs for fuel escalate due to new environmental laws
Effective January 1st 2015 all vessels entering US waters (200 miles from shore) must burn a higher grade diesel fuel to reduce smoke stack emmissions. This will result in millions of dollars of additional cost to shipping companies trading into the US. Europe has also adopted a similar policy. The effect on shipping companies serving Bermuda will be significant. While the exact amount that will need to be reflected in the existing bunker surcharge has yet to be finalized, the cost will likely be in the $50-$60 per container range. Please see below link and a posting of a recent article regarding the implications.
NGML remains focused on managing cost.
