The BCL family loses an outstanding Officer and a friend
NGL is very sorry to report that Piotr Poliński, 2nd officer of Oleander passed away last week in a car crash in Europe at the age of 33. Piotr first joined the crew of Oleander in 2009 and has sailed on the Oleander through all types of weather during multiple deployments. Piotr never really planned to spend his life at sea and actually wished to be at home working on dry land. However, over the years Piotr really came to enjoy his time on the Oleander, apparently it was the only ship that he actually wanted to work on. He was an extremely capable and respected officer serving the ship with a positive attitude earning the friendship of all those that he worked with. He was always approachable and a positive influence, and every time that he rejoined the Oleander he was welcomed back by the crew and management. Piotr was an irreplaceable member of the Oleander team during the Dry Docking in Netherlands in 2011. (Please click HERE to see the picture of Piotr standing within the Oleander bow section). Captain Jacek said “Piotr spread happiness and it was always a pleasure and great honor to work with him. I am certain that this is the same favorable opinion that is held by all those that had the honor to work with Piotr. Piotr was the best officer I had ever worked with during my sea going career”. As per Captain Jacek’s last conversation about 2 weeks ago he said that he would be ready to join the Oleander again whenever a position opened for him. A picture of Piotr will be mounted on board the Oleander in his memory. Our condolences are offered to his family and friends. Piotr will be sadly missed by the entire BCL family.
