Please see the below notice of a decrease in the bunker surcharge from $207 to $180 effective on October 1st. The BAF (Bunker Adjustment Factor) quarterly adjustments are intended to reflect the price volatility (varying price) of fuel above a certain level of base cost. For the 4th quarter of 2014 the price will be reduced from $207 per 20′ container to $180 and for break bulk cargo is 9.75% of the ocean freight rate. Customers should however be aware that the United States has mandated that by January 1, 2015 all shipping companies entering US waters (200 miles out) will be required to burn higher priced diesel fuel instead of the usual lower grade bunker fuel. Once determined this cost will need to be factored into the BAF (Bunker Adjustment Factor) for all shipments commencing in the new year. BCL will provide notice and the amount in due course.
